Heather Menzies-Urich, who plays one of von Trapp’s sisters in The Sound of Music, died Sunday at 68.
Menzies-Urich, a Toronto-born widow of actor Robert Urich, was recently diagnosed with brain cancer, Ryan’s son told Variety. The legacy of Rodgers and Hammerstein, which produced the 1965 Oscar-winning film, also claimed death.
Menzies-Urich plays Louisa von Trapp in the film, which was released when she was 15. She began her acting career in The Farmer’s Daughter, a 1964 adaptation of another film, and continued to appear in a number of film and television dramas, including Logan’s Run and Vega $ with Urich’s second star, whom she married in 1975. He died in 2002, who also suffered from cancer and she founded a fund to sponsor.
