Rockets vs. Thunder: Score, update, highlights such as OKC will continue to win the way
Rockets join their Christmas game against the Thunder with the best record in the Western Conference, but the Oklahoma City team is hotter.
Thunder was riding a four-game win at Chesapeake Energy Arena while the Rockets dropped their last two games to the Lakers and the Clippers. In four wins that, Russell Westbrook averaged 29.8 points, 9.5 assists, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals while shooting 59.8 percent from the yard and 50 percent from the 3 point range.
Houston could not escape the victory despite having 51 consecutive games from MVP candidate James Harden. Chris Paul (left) has been eliminated from the list, so Harden will need help if the Rockets want to prevent the Thunder from attacking the five.
Sporting News will provide live updates below for the matchup between Rockets and Thunder. Keep up with the latest highlights from the battle of the Western Conference.
Rockets vs. Thunder: Score, highlights, updates
10:15 pm ET – Hack-A-Roberson’s strategy is here. The Rockets knocked out Andre Roberson on consecutive property, but he hit two of his four attempts to at least put some points on the board. He participated in shooting games under 30 percent from the charity strip. Ouch.
10:11 pm ET – Paul George made his fourth personal foul with less than five minutes to go into regulation. The Thunder led 102-99, so this could go down to the wire. The trio of Westbrook-George-Anthony combined for 69 points so far.
10:03 pm ET – Russell Westbrook has room to run? That’s a problem.
9:53 pm ET – So, Thunder has lost the third quarter. Let’s see if this trend continues
End of third quarter: Thunder 88, Rockets 88:
9:48 pm ET – And we were back where we started. James Harden and Russell Westbrook came back to survival in the second half with Harden approaching double territory three times (25 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds). Every OKC initiator except Andre Roberson scored at least 15 points, so it would be interesting to see where Thunder is going.
9:40 pm ET – Just put everyone on the message: James Harden is making James Harden everything.
9:35 p.m. ET — This end-to-end play by Russell Westbrook… bananas.
9:28 pm ET – Thunderclay hits the Rockets with a 7-2 lead in the second half. Mike D’Antoni need time to wait.
Halftime: Thunder 58, Rockets 57
9:10 pm ET – Russell Westbrook has his first shot in the shooting range, losing 10 of his 14 appearances, but he is having an impact elsewhere with six assists. and twice stolen. Carmelo Anthony (14 points, 5 rebounds) and Steven Adams (15 points, 8 rebounds) were undone.
OKC has also done a strong job to accommodate James Harden, who missed out on seven of his first eight shots, although he has seven assists and five rebounds. The big battle between Clint Capela and Adams should be fun to watch in the second half
8:56 p.m. ET — As Uncle Drew would say, “That’s a pocket pass!”
8:49 p.m. ET — Paul George was pumped for this game! OK, well, he was a little nervous.
End of first quarter: Rockets 31, Thunder 28
8:35 pm ET – The Rockets and Thunder races are taking place with Trevor Ariza and Steven Adams leading (who can bet on those top scorers through a quarter?). Russell Westbrook has five assists, but he missed all six goal attempts. He has some nice looks, so see if he can find the beat here.
8:29 pm ET – Trevor Ariza led the scorer with 12 points in 8 minutes when the shot went from 4-5 yards. James Harden had just scored twice in the first quarter, but he had four assists.
8:21 pm ET – Uh oh. We’ll have to wait and see what’s going on with Andre Roberson. (UPDATE: ESPN’s Cassidy Hubbarth reports Roberson suffered a dislocated finger, but, he is available to return.)
8:13 pm ET – Thunder runs out of the gate with a 9-2 run to start the game. Carmelo Anthony and Steven Adams scored early and often.
8:05 pm ET – Carmelo Anthony almost joined the Rockets in the past. Now he will play with them for the first time this season. He has had some success in the past Christmas Day games.
7:50 p.m. ET — Christmas birthday! Happy 29th birthday to Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon!
